Booking sites
What booking sites add to bag prices
Booking a low-cost flight through a booking site can make the bags dearer than on the airline's own site. We read real checkout price breakdowns on Kiwi.com (no booking made) and recorded what Kiwi adds on top of the airline's own bag price. Kiwi does not publish this "baggage service fee"; it appears only at checkout.

In 21 checkouts we read: a service fee of €2.25 to €15.80 per passenger, plus a baggage service fee of 30% to 100% on top of the airline's own bag price when you add bags. With bags, Kiwi's search price was up to €35.49 below checkout for Ryanair, Transavia, Vueling and easyJet (it matched for Lufthansa, TAP Portugal and Wizz Air).

How we measure it
We open Kiwi.com's checkout for a real flight, add bags, and read its price breakdown, which splits the airline's part from Kiwi's own service fee and baggage service fee. We type no personal details and book nothing. The airline's bag price is the part Kiwi's breakdown labels as the airline's. Kiwi's search prices change by the minute, so we compare bag parts read close together. More readings make these ranges more precise; this page updates itself.
Tip: if you're taking bags, compare the total with the airline's own site before you pay. Airlines' own checked bag prices →
